About us
Our team at Mkulumadzi
Mkulumadzi is owned and managed by Robin Pope Safaris, one of Africa’s leading safari companies. Founded in 1986 by Robin Pope, the legendary safari guide, and his wife Jo, the company has gone on to win many international awards. The company also owns and runs four camps in Zambia’s South Luangwa Valley, and Pumulani on Lake Malawi.
Pumulani is Robin Pope Safaris' beach lodge on Lake Malawi; a perfect way to end any safari experience. The property is located in Lake Malawi National Park overlooking the crystal clear waters of Lake Malawi. Guests here can be as relaxed or active as they like; with an endless list of activities at hand. The options include sailing, kayaking, snorkelling, scuba diving, water skiing and many more. Cultural tours are also an option for those who would like a more holistic experience of Malawi. The 10 villas include a honeymoon suite and a family villa, making the property suitable for all.
Nkwali is set on the banks of the Luangwa River. It accommodates 12-14 guests in large rooms made of woven bamboo, thatch and stone floors. Robin Pope Safaris operate Nsefu inside the South Luangwa National Park: it sleeps 12 guests in six brick-built rondavels with thatched roofs.
Luangwa River Camp is a small intimate camp well positioned on the banks on the Luangwa River and opposite the game rich Luangwa Wafwa area of the park. With easy access to the park and such an ideal location, game viewing in maximised from everywhere at this camp. The property has only 5 en suite chalets, offering highly personalised experience for guests.
Tena Tena is the company’s tented camp for up to 10 guests, open between mid May and the end of October. The Times of London said: “Tena Tena Camp is altogether beyond superlatives, and must be one of the best safari camps in the whole of Africa.”
Nsefu is a small private camp set on a sweeping bend of the Luangwa River, within the South Luangwa National Park. With six rondavels (traditional African houses), it is stylish and intimate and offers exceptional game viewing: private walking safaris, game drives and night drives.
All the camps offer walking safaris as part of daily activities, but specialist walking trails are also on offer; namely Walking Mobiles and Luangwa Bush Camping. These are non-participatory walking trails, sleeping in walk-in tents and dining under the stars, with seasoned safari guides.
